What is the best road / trail to Machu Picchu?
I manage a website of Latin America travel (www.cat-travel.com) and offer a number different paths and routes to Machu Picchu and The Inca Trail. I recommend The Inca Trail NEW. We walked in 2005, and I liked it a) had fewer people in it b) the guides were very knowledgeable c) I have heard rumors that the original Inca Trail mistreated and a pile of garbage is left behind. I have not seen groups of tourists from any other of the new road, leaving behind trash or mishandling of the environment. I certainly never want to do the old road as it sounds so busy.
