Iquitos is the largest city in the Peruvian jungle, with a population of about 400,000, and is generally regarded as the most populous city in the world that can not be reached by road. The only way is by plane or river boat.

In the 19th century the city was the center of the rubber industry, but by the 20th century the trade had moved to the Far East, and the city had fallen into neglect and abandonment. Now is a place without a purpose apparent, still wearing post-colonial splendor rubber boom, but literally in the middle of nowhere, a true frontier town.

When you are standing on the Malecon on the edge of town (and civilization) that overlook thousands of miles of jungle: a truly awesome experience and beautiful.

Iquitos is where the participants gather for our plant spirit shamanism and ayahuasca experiences on Amazon Earth Magic Adventure (see href = "http://www.thefourgates.com" target = "_blank"> www.thefourgates.com - Holy Days - for details).

Cusco, the historic capital Inca Empire, is a city in southeastern Peru, near the Sacred Valley of the Andes. It has a population of about 300,000 inhabitants living at an altitude of about 3,300 m (10,800 feet).

According to Inca legend, the city was built by the Sapa Inca Pachacuti and providing for the form of a puma, a sacred animal of the region, although the archaeological evidence points to start slower, more organic growth before Pachacuti. However, there was a plan, and two rivers were diverted and channeled through the city.

The Spanish arrived there in 1533 and described it as a city "very noble and great. "Buildings built after the conquest are of Spanish influence with a mix of Inca architecture. Often, the Spanish buildings were built at the top of the stone walls built by the Incas.

The original Inca city, said that was founded in the 11th century, was sacked by Pizarro in 1535. There are still remains, however, the Palace of the Incas, the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Virgins of the Sun. Other places of historical interest nearby main Inca and beauty are the presumed winter home of Pachacuti, Machu Picchu, which can be reached on foot along The Inca Trail, or train, and the "fortress" at Ollantaytambo and Sacsyhuaman.

Cusco is where participants gather for our plant spirit shamanism and experiences in San Pedro Cactus Vision Program (see www.thefourgates.com target = "_blank"> - Sacred Journeys -- for details).
