Any backpacker in Peru?

I was wondering if someone could help me with a plan of what to do and where to go / stay in Peru? I will land, in Lima, but I'm not really sure where to go from here. I've been watching the bus schedules, which seem pretty cheap, but the time it takes to reach some places is considerable. I looked at the trains but they seem to work very expensive. One point of interest Is Machu Picchu, but Im not sure if I want Inca Trail, however, I heard you have to go on a trip organized to do this and must be booked 35 days in advance? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks

First, Peru is a fantastic place to travel, so you will have a blast, but please, please, please (enough?) not go anywhere long distance by train or bus. It's really worth spending the few extra dollars and get an internal flight. The Serice bus is reliable, but slow and very uncomfortable. Hofficic least of my trips by bus in Peru was to share a journey of 15 hours with a drunken wedding party, and a Spanish dubbed version "The Ring", played at full volume in repetition. When land in Lima, do not despair, just not one of the best cities in Peru. Unless you're a real city person, I would recommend flying to Cusco after a full day in Lima (the Aztec museum is very cool). Cusco is brilliant, though very high, so take a few days here to aclimatise and enjoy the city. I really think you should do The Inca Trail. You can get the tourist train from Cuzco to Macu Piccu, but very busy. The 4-day hike will be one of the best the best things you never will. Once again, you get what you pay for. I went with that charged by SAS Travel $ 50 more than the others, but the food was excellent and the porters (to carry food / bags / tents) were treated very well. One of the performances Inca Trail saddest is seeing shippers group of tourists from other sleeping outside or in toilets - pay the extra. Although it broke at the end of his day Machu Picchu try to climb the mountain as big triangle behind the ruins. It is a steep, but the views are breathtaking. I would like to book in advance, as the best tours are often booked early, and you need a permit to enter the track (which the company will sort out). You should try to take in the Ollyontambo fresh markets (on Tuesday I think), and then could head south to Lake Titticacca or the Nazca Lines. Beside the possibility of outside Have you considered perhaps divide his time between Peru and Ecuador? Ecuador is very small compared in Peru is still an exciting country to visit, both for culture and landscape. Unlike Peru, it is much easier to go from one place to another (you can bus from north to south in 10 hours). If you have the time, I would consider -- which definitely adds to his experience in South America. If you go early, pack a warm sweater and socks - a good time but it gets pretty cold at night. If you are planning to do The Inca Trail, take a rain coat - it'll rain at least once. Enjoy
