What means of transportation you can take to reach Machu Picchu from hotels in Lima, Peru (except automobiles)? ?
My mother and I go to Lima, Peru this November and want to find a way to reach Machu Picchu without having to rent a car (we're only there for 5 days), Once a bus or train from a hotel would be available? If anyone knows from personal experience, if there is anyway to get free rent, please respond. Thank You (;
You pretty much have to travel to Cuzco, unless you want to spend 2 of their vacation days on the road. LAN and TACA are frequent flights (LAN has a reputation much better). I have my flight from the Peruvian Apunake website, which was much cheaper than a U.S. site, but to use it, you need a Visa card that participates in the program Verified by Visa (you can register your Visa card on the website or call the number on your card). From Cuzco MP can book a tour, or spend the night in Aguas Calientes (aka Machu Picchu), where you can simply take a bus to MP early in the morning, before all the tourists who arrive on the train (I think the first train that arrives at 10 am?).
