Travel To Cusco

The discovery of Machu Picchu was actually the unintended consequence of finding Vilcabamba - a town established by the rebel Inca Manco Capac II, after Peru was invaded by the Spanish. From this city, the Incas remaining Spanish settlers attack in Cusco for the next 36 years. However, in 1572, the Spanish invaded the problem solution, and implement the successor of Manco Capac, ending the dynasty of the Incas. The location of this legendary settlement was forgotten - that live in only a few vague maps and clues left by future generations.

In 1909, 337 years after the last of the Incas was assassinated, Dr. Hiram Bingham of Yale University visited Peru and was fascinated by the legendary settlement and promised to return in search of her. In 1911, he returned with seven other people, sponsored by Yale University and the National Geographic Society. In July, Bingham and his team began their journey of exploration Inca Trail and very quickly ran with a solution named Patallacta (and sometimes called Llactapata).

A week after the expedition, Bingham and his team camped at Mandorpampa (now Aguas Calientes) and spoke with the owner of a local farm, Melchor Arteaga. He told the group of fine up to some ruins in the mountains, and agreed to accompany Bingham next day. When Artega and Bingham reached the top of the mountain (the other went on the trip due to heavy rain!), Were astonished to be met two local police and tax evasion, Anacleto Alvarez and Toribio, which led to the former.

What was Machu Picchu was abandoned and why?

There are several theories about what it symbolizes Machu Picchu, now that most people agree Vilcabamba is not theorized as Bingham. They focus on archaeological belief that Machu Picchu was abandoned before the Spanish arrived (how else way could have prevented being destroyed by them?)

- It was the ceremonial center of a large region and, possibly, the "Royal"; to the Inca Pachacutec and his extended family. Its sacred status (in terms Incas) between the mountains and rivers gives credence to this. This would mean that for many a trip along the Inca Trail To Machu Picchu would have been a religious pilgrimage!

- It was a lookout guarding the road to Cusco in the Amazon basin

- Are used to protect the source of the coca used in each part of the Inca religion

- It was the last refuge of the Virgins of the Sun Cusco (Inca nuns)

- It was the place where the first Inca, Manco Capac, emerged from a sacred cave.

Obviously, not all of them may have been, but it is interesting that makes this debate to this day.

And why was it abandoned? Some say that the death of Pachacutec have caused a real property for the building of new the next leader, others say the water supply just dried up.

Whatever you believe, an Inca Trail trekking remains a unique cultural experience and should be on a checklist of all travelers. If you have not followed the Inca Trail To Machu Picchu, however, you should consider visiting and discovering the secrets of the Incas for yourself.
